Glossary

optical fibre cable

Definition
Optical fibre is a flexible optically transparent fibre, usually made of glass or plastic, through which light can be transmitted by successive internal reflections. Optical fibre cable is used by many telecommunications companies to transmit telephone signals, internet communication, and cable television signals, sometimes all on the same optical fibre. It permits digital data transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than other forms of wired and wireless communications.

Style information: APC spells fibre ending in "re" rather than "er".
